RIOULT Dance NY presents a preview of Pascal Rioult's work in progress set to 1970's progressive rock music at the Manhattan Movement and Arts Center on December 2, 2016.

RIOULT Dance NY, a leading American modern Dance Company with a classic sensibility, performs at Manhattan Movement and Arts Center on December 2, 2016 at 7:30pm. Program duration is one hour. Tickets are $25 and are on sale now at: www.ticketfly.com/event/1370369.

An established name in modern dance with a reputation for performing sensual, articulate, and exquisitely musical works, RIOULT Dance NY presents a preview of Pascal Rioult's new work inspired by the 1970's progressive rock music of his youth, alongside repertory favorites Duets Sacred & Profane and Dream Suite. The performance will be followed by a wine and cheese reception with Pascal Rioult and the company dancers.

This new work in progress, to premiere at The Joyce Theater May 31-June 4, is a clear break from Rioult's fascination with classical scores. Rioult was inspired by progressive rock musicians' experimentation with compositional structure-often borrowing techniques from classical music in lieu of the danceable, predictable beat which pervaded the era. Revisiting the music 40 years later for the concert stage, the orchestral sound and long melodic lines found in 1970's progressive rock appeal to Mr. Rioult's classical sensibility.

Dream Suite (2014) is a contemporary take on romanticism. The contrasting mood of Tchaikovsky's "Orchestral Suite No. 2 in C Major" is juxtaposed with more aggressive, rhythmic, and athletic movement. With a palette inspired by the paintings of Marc Chagall, this thoroughly contemporary work delves into the surreal as it evolves.

Duets Sacred & Profane (2016) illustrates Rioult's distinctive partnering. This series of duets, spanning 20 years, includes Kansas City Orfeo, The Great Mass, Te Deum, and "Summer Wind" from Views of the Fleeting World with music by Christoph Willibald Gluck, "Orfeo and Euridice," Amadeus Mozart, "Mass in C minor," Arvo Part, "Te Deum," and Johann Sebastian Bach, "The Art of Fugue" respectively.

RIOULT Dance NY, founded in 1994, fast became an established name in modern dance with a reputation for bringing the sensual, articulate, and musical dance works of Pascal Rioult to audiences worldwide. The ten-dancer company, based in New York City, is led by husband-and-wife team Pascal Rioult and Joyce Herring - both former Martha Graham Dance Company principal dancers. With an established repertoire of over 40 dances that expands each year, RIOULT Dance NY presents an annual New York Season and tours nationally and abroad. In addition, in-school arts education and community outreach have been integral to the company since its inception, introducing students and families to the art of modern dance. www.rioult.org
