Patti Smith and Darren Aronofsky to Appear at NOAH Screening at Moving Image, 11/17

Museum of the Moving Image is pleased to announce a special screening of the adventure epic Noah followed by a discussion with director Darren Aronofsky and singer/songwriter Patti Smith in person on Monday, November 17, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at the Museum. Smith's soulful, haunting song "Mercy Is," her first original song written for the screen, is featured in the film. The two will discuss Noah and their collaboration in a wide-ranging conversation, and Smith will perform "Mercy Is."

"Noah is a remarkable cinematic accomplishment, a dazzling epic as well as a thoughtful and very timely interpretation of the biblical story," said David Schwartz, the Museum's Chief Curator. "We are thrilled Darren Aronofsky and Patti Smith will be here to discuss the movie, and it will be very special to hear her live performance."

Darren Aronofsky's Noah (2014, 139 mins, DCP) offers a mesmerizing telling of the Old Testament story that explores themes of good and evil, destruction and mercy, family, and second chances. Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe portrays the man chosen to undertake a momentous mission of rescue before an apocalyptic flood destroys the world. The film also features Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Anthony Hopkins, and Logan Lerman.

In Noah, the song "Mercy Is" is sung by both Russell Crowe and Emma Watson as a lullaby handed down through the generations, and lyrically embraces hope for a new world. Patti Smith's recording, which is heard in the film's finale, was a live take in which she performed with the Kronos Quartet.

Tickets for "An Evening with Darren Aronofsky, Patti Smith, and Noah," are $25 ($15 Museum members at the Film Lover, Dual, and Family levels / free for Silver Screen members and above). Tickets will go on sale at movingimage.us on Thursday, October 30. Museum members at the Film Lover level and above have an exclusive pre-sale window that begins Tuesday, October 28.

Film Screenings: Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays, and as scheduled. Tickets for regular film screenings are included with paid Museum admission and are free for members at the Film Lover level and above.
Museum Admission: $12.00 for adults; $9.00 for persons over 65 and for students with ID; $6.00 for children ages 3-12. Children under 3 and Museum members are admitted free.
