FIVE actors and musicians from England are taking their cabaret to New York Tuesday, October 28th to back up George Orwell's assertion that "hope for the future lies with the proles".
'One Georgie Orwell', a musical tribute to the author of the world-famous dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, includes eight original songs alongside Orwell's own words from books and essays plus a biting narration around those who worship what Orwell called The Money God. Singer-songwriter Carl Picton, the musical heart behind the 70-minute show, went to a state secondary school, as did the rest of the cast - Chris Knott, Hugh Barnett, Steven George and Joe Watson. "I've never worked with anyone else on songs before, but when I was approached I really liked the idea," said Carl. Writer Peter Cordwell added: "I honestly don't think there's a weak song. It's not a long show but it's quite dense because there is so much to Orwell, his work and his life. He lived with tramps, went down mines and fought in the Spanish Civil War even though he was upper class and went to the famous English public school, claimed Eton.Videos
