NYMF's 'Bway Idol' Winner Huberman Performs at Ars Nova

New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) is presenting the solo concert debut of NYMF's first-ever 'Broadway Idol' winner, Jaclyn Huberman, this Tuesday, May 8 at 8pm and Sunday, May 13 at 9:30pm at Ars Nova (511 W. 54th St.) in Manhattan. The show will feature Huberman in an evening directed by Jim Augustine, with songs by Stephen Schwartz, Jason Robert Brown, Michael John LaChiusa, and Ani DiFranco. Musical director Andy Boroson will be featured on piano, with Dave Purcell on drums and Tony Steele on bass.

Huberman, a Harvard grad with a degree in Psychology, presented one-woman show You Don't Know Jac: An Evening of New Songs at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in November of last year. She was also in the Off-Broadway musical I Love You Because, in which she understudied all three women, and starred as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance for Inside Broadway.

Press notes state, "'Broadway Idol' was created and produced by the New York Musical Theatre Festival last fall, as a talent competition seeking to find the newest musical theatre star.  Approximately 175 people attended the open auditions in September, which were open to any performer who had not previously acted in a Broadway show.   The 2006 competition was part of the 'NYMF @ Nite' Party series, with weekly elimination rounds presided over by a panel of professional musical theatre judges (including Lonny Price, Chip Zien, Marin Mazzie, and Stephen Schwartz, among others).  Similar to 'American Idol,' contestants were chosen by audience members through Verizon Wireless text messaging immediately after each week's show.  After several evening competition performances in which she was one of nine finalists Jaclyn Huberman was declared the New York Musical Theatre Festival's first ever "Broadway Idol."

Performances are Tuesday, May 8 at 8pm and Sunday, May 13 at 9:30pm at Ars Nova (511 W. 54th Street at 10th Avenue).  Tickets are $20, and are available by calling 212-868-4444 or logging onto www.smarttix.com or www.nymf.org.
