NY Philharmonic Young People's Concert Explores THE AGES OF MUSIC, CLASSICAL

The second New York Philharmonic Young People's Concert (YPC) of the 2010-11 season will take place Saturday, January 15, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., led by Philharmonic Assistant Conductor Daniel Boico.

The concert will focus on the Classical era as part of
the season's theme, "The Ages of Music," which will explore the four major periods of orchestral music. Philharmonic Director of Education Theodore Wiprud is the host of the series, designed for youngsters 6 to 12 years of age, with programs written and directed by Tom Dulack. This concert will spotlight 14-year-old violinist Randall Goosby - one of four young violinists who are appearing as soloists on the YPCs this season - and will also feature actor Jason Parrish as Herr Fopf.

All YPCs are preceded by Kidzone Live!, an interactive music fair -where children meet Philharmonic musicians, create and hear their own music, try out orchestral
instruments, learn dances, compete to show what they know about music, and learn new technologies -on the Grand Promenade and upper tiers of Avery Fisher Hall, at
12:45 p.m. A special podcast for children is available at nyphil.org/ypc beginning a week before each YPC, as is TuneUp, the kids' concert program, complete with activities related to the concert.

The upcoming YPCs this season are -The Ages of Music: Romantic? (March 12, 2011) and -The Ages of Music: Modern? (April 2, 2011).
