Where is the line between audience and performer? In Perseverance Theatre's production of Not Medea, a single-mother gets one night to herself, escapes to the theatre and becomes part of the performance - along with the audience.

Can she write her own story, as she steals the spotlight at the theatre, or does she become the myth she's woven into on stage? This contemporary play jumps off the Greek classic to ask surprising questions about motherhood, marriage, and adoption. Funny and tragically honest, Not Medea is the show you did not know you meant to see.Not Medea opens October 14 and runs through November 6 in Juneau at Perseverance Theatre, and will run November 11-20 in Anchorage at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts.

Not Medea is a National New Play Network (NNPN) rolling world premiere by Allison Gregory, whose previous work was seen at The Kennedy Center, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and South Coast Repertory, among many others. Shelley Virginia, an adjunct professor at the UAA Department of Theatre and Dance, stars as a woman just wanting a night out. Shelley has a long history of both theatre and film credits to her name, and is joined by Perseverance actor-in-residence Enrique Bravo, and Alaskan actor Cate Ross.

National New Play Network Rolling world premieres give playwrights unprecedented opportunities to grow their work over multiple productions. Perseverance Theatre is a core member of NNPN, and joins B Street Theatre in Sacramento, CA, and the Contemporary American Theatre Festival in Shepherdstown, West Virginia in premieringNot Medea.
