When she was 40 years old, author Mitali Chakravarty moved to China. A gifted storyteller, journalist, teacher, parent and world traveler, she shares a lifetime of unique experiences her new, fun-filled book, "In the Land of Dragons" (published by Trafford Singapore).

Presented as a collection of anecdotes and observations, "In the Land of Dragons" focuses primarily on Chakravarty's life in China for the past seven years. She also chronicles memorable experiences in other countries she has traveled to or lived in.

"My book is thematically linked by the idea that common concerns of all people from different parts of the world are very similar," Chakravarty says. "All our boundaries of color, culture, creed and countries are very superficial."

At a time when issues of religion, race and politics seem to be growing more divisive and polarizing, "In the Land of Dragons" promotes the idea of a world filled with goodwill and harmony. Humorous stories about pets, parties, children's wild imaginations, travel and adjusting to life in a new country, while based on Chakravarty's own experiences, reveal the interconnectedness of all people across the world.

An excerpt from "In the Land of Dragons":

"He went close to the donkey and would probably have pulled its tail if we hadn't stopped him in time. My sons grew up in Singapore before we moved to China and were unfamiliar with donkeys except in the zoo. Both my boys were excited to see the donkey, which stood patiently on the hillside, gazed at infinity and grazed in the shadows of the Great Wall."
