Marin Ireland Receives 2010 Hart Alumni Award, 5/16

Today, April 29, The Hartt School of the University of Hartford in Connecticut announced that Tony Award Nominee, Marin Ireland is the recipient of the 2010 Hartt Alumni Award. The award will be conferred on Ms. Ireland, who received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Hartt School in 2000, during Commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 16, 2010.  

Growing up in Camarillo, California, about 45 minutes north of Los Angeles, Marin began acting at eleven years of age, when she tagged along with a classmate to an audition in Thousand Oaks, California. She landed a small role and continued to perform in the following years.

At Hartt and in the years that have followed, Marin’s unique combination of natural talent, hard work, perseverance, and intensity, have resulted in critical acclaim for her work at the national level. This year, Marin was described by members of the New York press as “riveting” in her most recent portrayal, of Beth in The New Group’s off-Broadway's revival of A LIE OF THE MIND.

Ireland made her Broadway debut in REASONS TO BE PRETTY, and was nominated for a 2009 Tony Award for "Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play" for her performance. Ireland received rave reviews for her role, for which she also won the Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway or Off-Broadway Debut Performance during the 2008-2009 theatrical season. Subsequently, she was seen in Patrick Marber's AFTER MISS JULIE, which played at the American Airlines Theatre. 

Other Off-Broadway credits include: Blasted (Soho Rep); Cyclone (Studio Dante, OBIE); The Beebo Brinker Chronicles (4th Street, 37 Arts); Bad Jazz (The Play Company); The Ruby Sunrise (Public Theater); The Harlequin Studies (Signature); The Triple Happiness (Second Stage); Manuscript (Daryl Roth); Fighting Words (Underwood); Savannah Bay (Classic Stage); Where We’re Born (Rattlestick); Sabina (Primary Stages); Far Away and Nocturne (both at New York Theatre Workshop).  Tours include Royal Court’s American tour of Sarah Kane’s 4.48 Psychosis.  Selected regional credits include: Mauritius (Huntington; Elliot Norton nomination, IRNE Award); Heartbreak House (Goodman); The Bells (McCarter); Uncle Vanya (Lake Lucille); As You Like It (Commonwealth Shakespeare); and Richard Greenberg’s The Injured Party (South Coast Rep).
