Mad. Sq. Music Studio Series Sets Saturdays Lineup, 9/12-10/10

Madison Square Park Conservancy today announced the Mad. Sq. Music: Studio Series lineup on Saturdays, September 12 through October 10, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Studio Series features a mix of folk, blues, and Americana artists on Saturday afternoons in the fall. The series kicks off on September 12 with the Campbell Brothers followed by Luther Dickinson. On September, 19 Kristin Diable performs with Time and Luck. Ellis Paul is set to play on October 3 with Freddy and Francine. The series concludes on October 10 with the Heritage Blues Orchestra and The Trishas.

Mad. Sq. Music: The Studio Series takes place near the Shake Shack at the southern end of the Park. Some seating and café tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The show on September 19 will take place on the Oval Lawn of Madison Square Park. All shows are rain or shine.

Madison Square Park is located between Fifth and Madison Avenues, from 23rd St to 26th St. Thanks to Mad. Sq. Campbell Brothers

The Campbell Brothers are an African American gospel group with electric steel guitar. They have performed for almost twenty years and toured throughout the U.S. The Brothers present a compelling, rich variety of material from the African-American Holiness-Pentecostal repertoire with a new twist: the growling, wailing, shouting, singing and swinging voice of the steel guitar, played as you have never heard it played before. Luther Dickinson

Luther Dickinson is a contemporary folk artist from western Tennessee. With his brother Cody, Luther is a charter member of the North Mississippi Allstars and has recorded with an amazing array of musicians over the years including: Beck, Patty Griffin, Mavis Staples, John Hiatt, Buddy Miller, RL Burnside, Lucero, Jon Spencer, and Robert Plant. He's also produced albums by Jim Lauderdale, Amy LaVere, and Otha Turner, whose Everybody's Hollerin' Goat was named one of the top 10 blues records of the '90s by Rolling Stone. Kristin Diable

Krisitn Diable is originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and sings a unique mix of soul, rock 'n roll and American music. She has been exploring freedom and choice in her music ever since she picked up an open mic at a lounge in Baton Rouge. After spending time performing in New York and touring in Europe and Africa, Diable returned to Louisiana to write her second album Create Your Own Mythology. Time and Luck

Time & Luck is a Midwestern Americana love story with vocals and grooves that would be at home in the Motown of the 60's, harmonies that you might only hear in duets of the 50's, and instrumental breaks that would feel at home in a Bluegrass rave. Joshua and Lindsay have toured the U.S. and Europe together as founding members of the band Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys. They released their first record in 2014 borrowing the band name Time and Luck from a Vonnegut novel. When they get off the road, they often get right back to it either as the duo or as a collaborative project like the Time & Luck Quartet. The bluegrass band resides in Nashville, Tennessee. Ellis Paul

Hailing from the Boston music scene, Ellis Paul is a contemporary folk singer-songwriter who came about when the genre was originating. He has played over 150 shows annually in the past 20 years and released 19 records. Paul has earned fifteen Boston Music Awards throughout his career and has also worked on a documentary film and written an award winning children's book. Freddy and Francine

Freddy & Francine is the result of a multitude of late-night writing sessions between Lee Ferris (Freddy) and Bianca Caruso (Francine). Drawing from influences like Ray LaMontagne, The Swell Season, Ryan Adams and The Rolling Stones, Freddy and Francine became a favorite on the Los Angeles live circuit in 2008. After a brief hiatus, the duo is back and has already sold out a handful of shows around L.A. In 2014 they won 2014 Koffeehouse Music Singer Songwriter's Competition. Heritage Blues Orchestra

Heritage Blues Orchestra combines low-down country with urban blues and brass. The soulful members came together from all over the U.S. to create this one-of-a-kind blend in celebration of African American tradition. The band recently released their debut album And Still I Rise. After listening to their debut album or witnessing a live performance by the Heritage Blues Orchestra (HBO), you'll recognize this group as something breathtakingly new even as they honor old African-American musical traditions. The Trishas

The Trishas are an all-girl band that formed in 2009 while performing a tribute for band member Savannah Welch's father. They had no plans to pursue a joint musical future - they didn't even have a name, and wound up calling themselves The Trishas on a whim. But by 2010 the band released their first EP, They Call Us The Trishas, and have since been touring together with their acoustic, country music.
