Ordained Minister Leonard V. Kalkwarf has a bit of an actor in himself. "While preaching in my 50 years in the parish ministry, I would frequently preach first person sermons during which I would assume the role of that biblical person," explains Kalkwarf. "In preparing these sermons, I felt as if I had gotten to know the person in a greater measure than simply what the reading of one of the Gospels would have given me."

His new book, "Dear Craig" (published by WestBow Press), brings well-known and less-known biblical figures to life, giving them modern personalities to relate to a modern audience while capturing the essence of their words. This gives readers a three-dimensional view of each character, combining information about each character from the Gospels and other historical information.

Kalkwarf hopes readers will gain a better insight into why these biblical persons acted the way they did. The lessons readers will learn from these adaptations can be applied to contemporary problems.

Kalkwarf says, "By having each one speak directly to the reader through a letter, the individual comes alive for the reader."
