LIC Arts Opens LIC Gallery Nights Starting Today

LIC Arts Open is proud to present LIC Gallery Nights, free monthly events where Long Island City's galleries and art spaces open their doors to the public in an after-hours celebration of art and culture. Taking place from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

The first Gallery Night will take place on September 22nd, and for this initiative some of the fascinating spaces from our neighborhood will open their doors for this special evening. This is an opportunity to see arts, see artists and see LIC.

BrickHouse Ceramic Art Center is a sanctuary in NYC where adults can relax and create art. BrickHouse offers year-round pottery classes to adults at the beginner, intermediate and advanced level. Shelf space is also available in the Associate Artist Studio to ceramic artists and advanced students for a monthly fee. Handmade pottery is for sale in our retail space. The 4,000 sq. ft. ceramic studio is fully equipped with slab rollers, potter's wheels, extruders, glazes, and kilns.

Brooklyn is where it all began in 2009, when Brooklyn Boulders opened their doors in the old Daily News Garage. It's more than just a city; it's a state of mind. It's about the creative clash of cultures that creates a diverse community, filled with passion and drive to make things happen.

Brooklyn Boulders is proud to be part of LIC Art Project's Third Thursday Gallery Tour nights. On Thursday, September 22, they spotlight talent within their community showing the works of Hedda Films followed by dinner behind their walls with Micasa Foods.

At Crescent Grill they are so passionate and committed to the culture of LIC that they've created a dedicated space in their restaurant to show artists. The Dougherty Gallery is the owners, brothers Dan and Shaun's, initiative to showcase, promote and sell primarily Long Island City art. Eleventh Street Arts is an exhibition space for contemporary drawings, paintings and sculptures. Adjacent to the collaborative artist studios of Grand Central Atelier, Eleventh Street Arts presents new work that invokes, challenges, and celebrates the classical tradition.

Since it's beginning in 2003, Local Project has served as a gallery for art exhibitions, organizing multidisciplinary shows, music events, workshops and performance where artist and community can collaborate towards a richer and fuller development of both.

On view Sept 22: A GROWING STORAGE PROBLEM: NYC based sculptor, J McDonald solo show. Through absurdity and abstraction, McDonald explores the current state of our anthropocentric dystopia.

Materials for the Arts is New York's premiere reuse center, providing a way for companies and individuals to donate unneeded supplies to thousands of nonprofit organizations with arts programming and public schools. Offering a wide variety of events, workshops, and classes to help people see and experience creative reuse up close.

Musician and creative reuse pioneer Skip La Plante will have his Symphony of Chimes on display at MFTA Gallery from September 2nd through the month of October. Created using an array of found objects, Symphony of Chimes features windchimes made out objects such a bicycle pedals, bed springs, crushed, lobster pots and coat racks. And don't miss his one of a kind performance Thursday, September 22 at 6:30pm!

Radiator Gallery provides local and international emerging and mid-career curators and artist- curators an excellent opportunity to work with and learn about the operations of a multi-disciplinary organization. Radiator will regularly present contemporary art exhibitions, performances and video programs.

featuring works by Daniel A. Bruce, Esmeralda Kosmatopoulos, Ahmet Civelek, Jennifer Grimyser, Tim Etchells, Dana Stirling, Juliette Dumas, Shannon Finnegan, Kay Rosen, Christina Massey and George Spencer. Curated by Osman Can Yerebakan, the exhibition brings together eleven contemporary artists working in a wide variety of mediums, investigates the notion of failure in contemporary art.

RESOBOX is a Japanese cultural center in Queens, New York that is dedicated to sharing and celebrating Japanese influence in the arts. Offering a broad range of authentic Japanese activities, events, classes, art exhibitions and even cuisines to spread to diverse audiences every day. RESOBOX Gallery is proud to present its fifth annual exhibition of hand-painted ninetieth century Japanese photographs from the Burns Collection & Archive. The exhibit includes images of the two major religions of Japan, Buddhism and Shintoism. These photographs portray the spiritualism and religious sites of Japan in the Meiji Era.

Founded by artists in 1928, SculptureCenter is New York City's only contemporary art museum dedicated to sculpture. SculptureCenter explores experimental and innovative developments in contemporary sculpture by commissioning new work and presenting exhibits by emerging and established, national and International Artists. Since relocating to a former trolley repair shop in Long Island City in 2002, SculptureCenter has emerged as one of New York's most adventurous contemporary art spaces. Exhibitions on view this fall: Cosima von Bonin: Who's Exploiting Who in the Deep Sea?, the influential German artist's first solo museum exhibition in New York City, examining her fascination with the sea; and Aki Sasamoto: Delicate Cycle, the Japanese-American artist's first solo museum exhibition, featuring a new body of work created in relation to SculptureCenter's lower level galleries.

Since its opening in 2013 The Local NYC has been a huge supporter of the cultural scene of LIC providing permanent showing space on their walls to showcase mainly local artist. They also contribute to the LIC Arts Open Festival every year and put musical, dance and video shows on regular basis. The Local is open 24/7 and people can walk in and look at art for free any time of the day. The Local is a perfect spot to enjoy the vibe of our neighborhood.

During September Reis Studios is launching The Experimental Gallery, a new space dedicated to contemporary art, and curated by artist JulIan Calderon.

Located on the 3rd floor of LIC's landMark Reis Studios, it is an ideal space for artists and independent curators to present specific projects and exhibitions before reaching out to a major art audience. The space is also equipped to a variety of work including video, sound and three dimensional artworks. It is our goal to make this space a destination to all artists and art lovers looking for a unique experience with showing and looking at artwork.
