Sunday, November 8 at 3:30 and 7:30 pm, and Friday, November 13 at 7:30 pm- "Fantasia" - 75th Anniversary Screening

Throughout history, there have been but a handful of groundbreaking films where the soundtrack has become inextricably linked to the cinematic achievement of the film itself. There is perhaps no greater example of this marriage than Walt Disney's 1940 masterpiece, "Fantasia."
Disney animators set pictures to Western classical music as Leopold Stokowski conducts the Philadelphia Orchestra. "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" features Mickey Mouse as an aspiring magician who oversteps his limits. "The Rite of Spring" tells the story of evolution, from single-celled animals to the death of the dinosaurs. "Dance of the Hours" is a comic ballet performed by ostriches, hippos, elephants, and alligators. "Night on Bald Mountain" and "Ave Maria" set the forces of darkness and light against each other as a devilish revel is interrupted by the coming of a new day. The screening will include a newly recorded behind-the-scenes look from the orchestra's rehearsals, and Yannik Nezet-Seguin will lead a discussion about the history of Stokowski and "Fantasia."

Tickets: $18, $16 seniors and kids ($14 members)

Saturday, November 14 at 11 am- Justin Roberts... Unplugged!

With a style compared to Elvis Costello and Green Day, Justin is an audience favorite at Symphony Space every season. This twice GRAMMY Award-nominated artist dishes out intelligent and whimsical songs delving into the highs and lows of everyday experience. Indeed, Entertainment Weekly recommends Justin as "a master of conjuring up images that resonate with the young ones." People says that his songs are "laugh out loud funny," the New York Times calls the lyrics "witty, smart, raw," and the Chicago Tribune puts him "in a league of his own."
