Juried COD Student Art Exhibit at the MAC's Cleve Carney Art Gallery Set for 4/10-5/17

The Cleve Carney Art Gallery hosts the College of DuPage's Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit at the McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn, April 10 to May 17. Opening preview reception is Thursday, April 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. and the gallery will be open until 8 p.m. that evening for extended viewing. Every spring the College's professional gallery presents the Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit. Staci Boris, the chief curator at the Elmhurst Art Museum, juried this year's show. Her selections include 41 works by 33 students, selected from 178 works submitted by 72 students from the greater Chicago area. This year's artworks include photography, jewelry, ceramics, sculpture, painting, and drawing from the following artists: Janine Cook (Aurora); Tammy Caltagirone (Batavia); Emily Weber (Carol Stream); Macús Alonso (Chicago); Jamie Matthews, Sarah Ann Mrozinski and Ngoc Ngo (Glendale Heights); Valerie Espinoza, Lorae Mundt, Jangyul Park, Philip Schnell (Downers Grove); Danielle Naughton (Lombard); Lynn Anderson, Shekia Baker, Don A. Larson Jr. and Sherri Siegele (Naperville); Gabriela Guganovic (St. Charles); Paul Davies, Robert Englehart, Mijeong Field, Daniel Gerut and Kenneth L. Jacobs (Wheaton); Joanne Barsant and Samuel Woodka (Roselle); Michael (Misa) P. Albanese (Warrenville); Zlatka M. Burtis and Jerry A. Schulman (Western Springs); Matt Levins (Westmont); Charles Loggins III (Willowbrook); Aline Fetter and Eric Rylowicz (Winfield); and Mike Hunnicutt (Woodridge). Boris also selected first, second and third award recipients and two honorable mention monetary awads. These award recipients plus a DuPage Art League Scholarship Prize will be announced at the 5 p.m. on April 10 in the Cleve Carney Art Gallery.

Boris became chief curator of the Elmhurst Art Museum in July 2012 where she curated "Open House: Art About Home," featured multimedia works. Prior to joining the Elmhurst Art Museum, she served for 12 years as a curator at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art, where she organized a series of noteworthy exhibitions. Boris also served as Executive Director of Art Chicago 2012. Boris holds an M.A. in Art History and Museum Studies from Boston University, and a B.A. in Art History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The new Cleve Carney Art Gallery, located at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage hosts the 2014 Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit April 10 to May 17. Opening preview is Thursday, April 10 from 4 to6 p.m. with extended viewing hours until 8 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Following the opening preview reception, the exhibition can be viewed during regular gallery hours Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursday 6 to 8 p.m.; and Saturday 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. The gallery is usually open beginning one hour prior to MAC performances and during intermission. The late Cleve Carney provided a significant legacy gift to establish the Cleve Carney Art Gallery, a one-story, 1,850-square-foot addition located on the west side of the McAninch Arts Center. The gallery opened in February 2014 with its inaugural exhibition "Selections from Cleve Carney's Art Collection." The Cleve Carney Art Gallery offers year-round visual art exhibitions showcasing a variety of innovative art by regional, national and international artists.. McAninch Arts Center (MAC) at College of DuPage is located 25 miles west of Chicago near I-88 and I-355, houses three performance spaces (the 800-seat proscenium Performance Hall, the 195-seat soft-thrust Playhouse space; and the versatile black box Studio Theatre), plus the Cleve Carney Art Gallery and classrooms for the college's academic programming. The MAC began major renovations in fall 2012 to update its three major performance spaces, construct the new, one-story 1,840 square foot Cleve Carney Art Gallery and make improvements in Patron Service areas. Renovations were completed in December 2013. The $35 million project was funded by the $168 million referendum that voters of District 502 passed in November 2010. Other College of DuPage projects covered by the referendum include the renovation of the Physical Education Center, Student Resource Center and Seaton Computing Center, and construction of the Campus Maintenance Center.
