A film source has confirmed to BroadwayWorld that SMASH and NEWSIES star
Jeremy Jordan has "likely been cast" opposite
Anna Kendrick in
Richard LaGravanese's upcoming film version of THE LAST FIVE YEARS. We're also told that a deal is "very likely, but not yet inked".
Jordan currently stars as 'Jimmy' on NBC's SMASH and most recently appeared on the Broadway stage in NEWSIES. This year, Jordan was nominated for a Tony Award for his role as
Jack Kelly in the Broadway musical, which he began with
Paper Mill Playhouse's U.S. touring production in 2011. Jordan has also appeared in Broadway's Bonnie & Clyde in 2011, as well as Rock of Ages and West Side Story in 2009. He guest-starred on Law & Order: SVU in 2008 and appeared in the film Joyful Noise.
Written by Jason Robert Brown, The Last Five Years explores a five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hyatt, a struggling actress. The show uses a form of storytelling in which Cathy's story is told in reverse chronological order (beginning the show at the end of the marriage), and Jamie's is told in chronological order (starting just after the couple have first met). The characters do not directly interact except for a wedding song in the middle as their timelines intersect.
