The "My True Colors Festival" has awarded playwright Jason Aaron Goldberg with the Purple Skies Award for his play MAIN DRAG and will present three developmental readings during the upcoming festival in June.

The showcase presentations will take place during Pride week at the Triskelion Arts Center in Brooklyn, June 22 & 23 at 8:00 PM and June 24 at 4:00 PM. It will star Ben Oduro, Jake Austin Robertson, Samantha Able, Amanda Bruton, Greg Rusin, and Jacqueline Sydney. Tickets are available via the festival website. (www.mytruecolorsfestival.com)

The My True Colors Festival's mission is to fight for social justice and to promote cultural diversity through the arts by promoting LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex and asexual) works. The complete festival runs June 14 - July 2, 2017.

"Jason is a storyteller, a truth-teller in that Main Drag addresses such pertinent issues as homophobia and racism. At the same rate, Main Drag touches upon universal themes around acceptance, tolerance, romantic love, and self-love. However, Jason does not preach to his audience; what he beautifully and meticulously does as a writer is to present characters that one can relate to and connect with using humor." said festival founder Carolyn Brown.

"I am honored to receive this award and grateful for the opportunity to develop the play during Pride week. We often hear, 'the artist's job is to hold a mirror up to society.' I hope this play does that, but that it does so with laughs and love." said Goldberg.

Main Drag follows Lionel Harris, known to the world as Lion El, an in demand wardrobe designer for pop stars, when his car breaks down in a small southern town. He finds himself caught at the intersection of combustible 21st century issues where he is forced to confront racism, homophobia, fame, fear, narcissism, humility, love, and a big Confederate flag.

Jason Aaron Goldberg is an award winning theatre and film artist whose plays have been developed, produced and presented by such companies as New York Theatre Workshop, Pasadena Playhouse, Theatricum Botanicum, Great Plains Theatre Conference, Wordmyth Theatre, and numerous university and high school theatre programs across the nation. Among his most well known plays are the full lengths The Confessions of Deacon Jim and The Three Es, and the one act Stone, Parchment, Saber; or Hamlet: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Jason directed the inaugural production at the new Art Square Theatre in downtown Las Vegas, Johnna Adams' NURTURE, which went on to be named "Best of the Year" by the Las Vegas Weekly. His first feature film, an adaptation of his play The Three Es, won many awards during its film festival run and is now available on Amazon Prime and VOD (http://a.co/6i9uYY7).
