Discover the culture and landscape of aboriginal Australia in Saltbush, an interactive theater piece making its U.S. debut from May 30 - June 8, at The New Victory Theater, New York City's premier performing arts venue for kids and families. Seated on the New Vic stage, audience members are invited on a trek across the Australian outback to discover the language, lore and music of its indigenous culture and then kick off their shoes and join the performers on a digitally interactive surface that responds in real-time to their every movement.

Originally commissioned by the Come Out Children's Festival, a week-long arts event in South Australia, Saltbush is a cross-cultural collaboration between Italy's Compagnia T.P.O. (The Butterfly Garden, New Vic 2010) and Melbourne's Insite Arts (This [Baby] Life, New Vic 2014). Under the artistic direction of Insite Arts' director Jason Cross and Compagnia T.P.O.'s director Davide Venturini, Saltbush fuses original imagery created by aboriginal Australian artists with the technology of T.P.O.'s innovative Children's Cheering Carpet, a performance surface equipped to display a variety of animations that respond to movement through a sophisticated network of pressure sensors.

Saltbush features dancers Rosealee Pearson and Sani Townson, with narration and additional performance by Jada Alberts. Sasha Zahra is the dramaturg, Lou Bennett is the composer and musician and Deon Hastie is the choreographer. Design elements are by Delwyn Mannix (visual artist and designer), Elsa Mersi (digital designer), Rossano Monti (technical designer) and Spartaco Cortesi (sound designer). Artistic collaborations were handled by Edoardo Donatini and Francesco Gandi. Niccolo Gallio and Alberto Martino are technical operators.
