Hudson, Mirren, Dench, Etc. Among SAG Award Nominees

Jennifer Hudson, Judi Dench and Helen Mirren were among the nominees of the 2006 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The SAG Awards ceremony will take place on January 28th at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center at 8 PM; it will be broadcast live on TNT and TBS (check local listings).

Peter O'Toole was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for Venus, while Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, and Meryl Streep were among the nominees for Female Actor in a Leading Role - for Notes on a Scandal, The Queen, and The Devil Wears Prada, respectively.  Alan Arkin was nominated for Male Actor in a Supporting Role for Little Miss Sunshine.

Dreamgirls received a number of nominations, including Jennifer Hudson for Female Actor in a Supporting Role and Eddie Murphy for Male Actor in a Supporting Role.  The film was also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture; Dreamgirls' ensemble also includes Anika Noni Rose, Beyonce Knowles, and Jamie Foxx.

A number of theatre veterans were also nominated in television categories, such as Jeremy Irons ("Elizabeth I"), William H. Macy ("Nightmares and Dreamscapes"), Annette Bening ("Mrs. Harris"), Helen Mirren ("Elizabeth I"), James Gandolfini ("The Sopranos"), Michael C. Hall ("Dexter"), Edie Falco ("The Sopranos"), Tony Shalhoub ("Monk"), and Alec Baldwin ("30 Rock").

The 43rd Annual Life Achievement Award will be presented to Julie Andrews, whose career encompasses film classics such as Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, and the Broadway shows My Fair Lady, Camelot and Victor/Victoria, among others.
