The Canton Symphony Orchestra, Canton Youth Symphony, Canton Symphony Chorus, McKinley Senior High School Singers, and Canton South High School Symphonic Choir will unite for a holiday pops concert today, December 8 at 3pm at Umstattd Performing Arts Hall (2323 17th Street NW - Canton).
Along with the regular program lineup of traditional holiday carols and an audience sing-along, this year's Holiday Pops concert will feature a very unique presentation: A Secret Gift, an award-winning book by Ted Gup about Canton's generosity and gratitude during the Great Depression, comes to life with an all-new musical work by local composer, Eric Benjamin.
The book is an inspiring account of America at its worst - and Americans at their best - woven from the stories of Canton families who were helped by gifts from the author's generous and secretive grandfather."It's an honor to contribute to the legacy of this tremendous story," commented Mr. Benjamin, "and bring it to life in music. The Canton area represents such a rich legacy of charity and kindness. Stories like this attest to its greatness. It's just right that the Canton Symphony Orchestra should be the first to perform the 'stage' version of A Secret Gift."Videos
