David Harewood has been cast as Obern in Julie Taymor's upcoming production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Harewood, who played CIA chief David Estes in two seasons of the Showtime series "Homeland," will play the Fairy King in the Off-Broadway production at Theatre for a New Audience in Brooklyn. Performances begin Oct. 19, prior to an official opening Nov. 2.

"Actually I turned down a role in a movie so I could do the theatre gig. I thought I'd get more out of doing some Shakespeare," commented Harewood. "Julie Taymor rang me the other day.....there may be some 'light flying' involved! I am so damn excited!"

Harewood's stage credits include his portrayal of Martin Luther King in The Mountaintop, and Theseus in the premiere of Welcome to Thebes at the National Theatre in London. Some of his film and TV credits include "Mrs. Mandela," "Robin Hood" and "Dr. Who."

In addition to "Homeland", Harewood's recent credits include the key role of Mike Alego in the CBS pilot, "Anatomy of Violence." He is also attached to play the title role "Robeson," an indie film being directed by Darrell Roodt, based on the life of singer/actor Paul Robeson, and recently filmed a supporting role opposite Liam Neeson, Olivia Wilde and James Franco in "The Third Person," directed by Paul Haggis.

Harewood is repped by APA, Conway Van Gelder Grant, and Authentic Talent & Literary Management.
