'Elegance Changzhou' Exhibit to Open at Federal Hall National Memorial

The New York-based Asian American Business Development Center and the City of Changzhou, Jiangsu Province in China present 'Elegance Changzhou" - an art and cultural exhibition - from July 12-14, 2016 at Federal Hall National Memorial, located at 26 Wall Street in Manhattan. An exhibition tour and a reception will be held on the evening of July 13th, which begin with a media tour at 5:00pm and follow by a reception at 6:00pm. Reporters will have an opportunity to meet some of the artists and discuss their works.

Changzhou is an ancient city in China, which is well known for silk embroidery, paper cuts and traditional paintings. Founded in the Wu culture, the exhibition reflects the beauty of the mountains, lakes and rivers of Southern China. A wide range of over 90 artworks will be displayed at the exhibit in various ways.

Examples in the exhibition show national cultural heritage such as Jintan paper-cut, which represents the folk art of the Han nationality. Artist Zhaoqun Yang has inherited these examples, with more than 100 such works having been published in newspapers throughout China and shown in domestic and international exhibitions.

Changzhou needlework embroidery is known as the one of five famous embroidery styles of China. Sun Yanyun learned three stitch embroidery from her mother as well as from the late Madam Ren Huixian (her mother's fellow artist) and Professor Lv Quji. Changzhou paintings focus on traditions, life and heritage. Southern Chinese art inherits the main characteristics of the Wu culture, which is a key source of inspiration for Chinese painting and calligraphy art.

The purposes for this art exhibition will be to showcase an exhibit by the Changzhou City's arts and culture and to promote cultural exchanges between the U.S. and China. John Wang, President & CEO of the Asian American Business Development Center, commented, "AABDC has long standing relationship with the City of Changzhou, which has helped to establish sister-city relations with Buffalo in 2009. The art exhibition is a continuation to develop art and cultural exchange between New York and Changzhou and to boost economic and trade cooperation."
