A missing horse. A missing boy. A vandal with an unexplained grievance against a local farmer. A man who has to re-examine everything he believes. Debbie Eckles' new book, "Horse in the Wilderness," tells an uplifting story of one man's journey from complete desperation to complete trust.

Set in the beautiful mountains and spacious national parks of contemporary, rural Arkansas, the story of Brent Travis and Autumn Parker incorporates infidelity, struggle and romance.

Eckles' relatable characters are not trying to save the world, just make their own little corner a better place as they overcome everyday challenges and live life to the fullest. Eckles' strong beliefs about morality and religion direct Brent's and Autumn's actions, and the characters set an example for others striving to live a life of faith and meaning.

"It is often the examples of others' lives that provide unconscious direction or guidance," said Eckles. "Young people often take cues for living in a culture from what they see, hear or read. I wanted this book to promote a meaningful life."

Eckles hopes Brent's journey from exile in a self-made wasteland to a fully restored relationship with God will inspire others who may be fighting the same battle.

"In this novel, Brent realizes that he is the horse in the wilderness, lost with no possibility of rescue," said Eckles. "This idea came from Isaiah 63:11,13: 'Where is He that put His Holy Spirit within him? That led them through the deep, as a horse in the wilderness, that they should not stumble?'"

"Horse in the Wilderness" is not just for those who are struggling with life issues or how to handle their faith. It is also an entertaining and suspenseful story, perfect for all readers, incorporating animals, nature and music.
