According to a report in Crain's, city officials have confirmed that the Ground Zero Arts Center, designed by Frank Gehry' has received go-ahead for construction on the originally planned site. Below-ground construction work will begin next quarter.

The Ground Zero arts theatre was originally scheduled for opening this fall but was delayed due to disagreements between city and state officials, as well as the logistical challenges that construction at Ground Zero presented.

The Lower Manhattan Development Corp. has put forth $50 million to construct the subterranean support structure for the center, however, the project may undoubtedly face more obstacles as it readies to launch. "Once the underground work is finished, the city will have to wait at least four years to begin construction on the actual building, because the temporary PATH station that is on the site can't be removed until the permanent transportation hub is finished. Estimates call for the Santiago Calatrava-designed station to be finished in 2014, but as is often the case with construction, there could be delays," reports Cain's.
