Children of Holocaust Survivors Set for Discussion at Cornelia Street Cafe

On Monday evening, July 11, at 6:00 PM, Cornelia Street Cafe will continue its performance series with author/international speaker Karen L. Kaplan and author, actor and Cornelia Street Cafe founder and owner Robin Hirsch, in conversation about their related life experiences as children of the Holocaust and the books they have authored.

Internationally recognized speaker and author, Chicago native Karen Kaplan (www.karenlkaplan.com) will share the story of her father, Arie Kaplan, who survived the Holocaust in the forests of Eastern Europe. Her story is one of forgiveness and letting go of the legacy of bitterness and angst that has hovered over the Jewish community following centuries of anti-Semitism. The author will present her book in Germany, August 2016, at a physician's conference titled: Refugees, Trauma and Reconciliation.

Robin Hirsch, born in London during the Blitz, is a former Oxford, Fulbright, and English-Speaking Union Scholar, who has acted, directed, taught and published on both sides of the Atlantic. As a writer, he is best known for his memoir, LAST DANCE AT THE HOTEL KEMPINSKI which has been called "one of the best books ever written on the long arm of the Holocaust" (Jewish Book News). It has a parallel life as a seven-part solo performance cycle called MOSAIC: FRAGMENTS OF A JEWISH LIFE, which he has performed all over the US and in London, Berlin and Vienna; the Village Voice called it "completely glorious."
