BWW TV: 'Wicked's' Shoshana Bean Recording in Los Angeles
Sunday, December 9, 2007; Posted: 02:12 PM - by James Sims
Broadway's Wicked star Shoshana Bean has been living in Los Angeles for the past year steadily working on recording her debut solo album. Along with her time writing music, she has found time to hit the local cabaret stages, as well as doing a one-night concert staging of It's a Bird... It's a Plane... It's Superman, as part of L.A.'s Reprise! Broadway's Best Musical Monday series in May.
Bean first appeared on stage in New York for the 2000 Off-Broadway revival of Stephen Schwartz's Godspell before becoming an original cast member in Hairspray. She then replaced Wicked's Idina Menzel in 2005 on Broadway and later toured with the production opposite Megan Hilty.
BroadwayWorld's own James Sims recently caught up with Bean as she rehearsed for an upcoming performance at Upright Cabaret. She talked about her time on Broadway, taking over the lead role in Wicked earlier than expected and revealed her future plans for recording and possibly touring once her album is released.
On December 13 & 14 at 8pm, L.A.'s celebrated Upright Cabaret premieres their season of star-studded performances poolside at the historic Palm Springs resort. This two-night Holiday Cabaret Event will feature Bean, Jennifer Leigh Warren who originated the role of Crystal in Little Shop of Horrors, Chad Kimball from Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, Leslie Odom Jr. from Rent, and two-time "Star Search" Grand Champion Jake Simpson with Music Director Gerald Sternbach on the piano. Reservations can be made by calling (760) 318-3016. The Viceroy Hotel is located at 415 South Belardo Rd. in downtown Palm Springs. This event is on-going and additional information can be found at www.myspace.com/uprightcabaret.
