Ahmanson Season to Include Gordy's Motown Musical in '07

According to Variety, the classic sounds of Motown will fill Ain't No Mountain High Enough, a new musical that will round out the Ahmanson Theatre's 2006-2007 season. Created by Berry Gordy, the founder of the legendary record label, the musical will open at the Los Angeles theatre on July 15th, 2007, after beginning previews on June 26th; it will run through August 12th. It will also feature a book by Gordy, with a story built around 30 Motown songs. The show "focuses on a story of young love, the search for self-identity and the urge to rebel," states the article. The Center Theatre Group will produce Ain't No Mountain High Enough.
Also comprising the Ahmanson's 2006-2007 season will be five touring productions of Broadway hits: Doubt (Sept. 27th-Oct. 29th), starring Cherry Jones, Adam Guettel and Craig Lucas' musical The Light in the Piazza (Oct. 31st-Dec. 10th), Matthew Bourne's dance piece Edward Scissorhands (Dec. 12th-31st), Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Feb. 6th-March 18th 2006), starring Kathleen Turner and Bill Irwin, and the Reginald Rose play Twelve Angry Men (March 28th-May 6th), starring Richard Thomas and George Wendt.
