The American Theatre Wing's 63rd Annual Antoinette Perry "Tony"® Awards were held at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 7, 2009 and broadcast on the CBS Television Network. For more information visit tonyawards.com.

Nominations in 27 competitive categories for the American Theatre Wing's 63rd Annual Antoinette Perry "Tony"® Awards were announced on May 5th by Tony Award Winners Cynthia Nixon and Lin-Manuel Miranda from the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.

The Antoinette Perry "Tony" Awards are bestowed annually on theatre professionals for distinguished achievement. The Tony is one of the most coveted awards in the entertainment industry and the annual telecast is considered one of the most prestigious programs on television.

'Best Orchestrations'

Michael Starobin and Tom Kitt (next to normal)
Michael Starobin: won the 2004 Tony Award for his orchestrations of Assassins. Other orchestrations include The Grinch, The Glorious Ones, Adrift in Macao, Bernarda Alba, Spelling Bee, Tom Sawyer, A New Brain, A Christmas Carol, Hello Again, Guys and Dolls, My Favorite Year, Falsettos, In Trousers, Once on This Island, Closer Than Ever, Legs Diamond, Romance/Romance, Carrie, Birds of Paradise, Rags, Three Guys Naked From the Waist Down, Von Richtofen, the Public Theater's La Bohème and Sunday in the Park With George.

Tom Kitt: Tom is the composer of next to normal, which recently had successful productions at both Second Stage (Outer Critics Circle Award for Best New Score; Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, Drama League nominations) and Arena Stage (nominated for five 2009 Helen Hayes Awards including Best Musical). He composed the music for High Fidelity (Broadway) and From Up Here (MTC), and his original songs have been featured in film and TV. He recently created new orchestrations for the CTG/Deaf West production of Pippin. As a musical director, conductor and arranger (Broadway and Off-Broadway), shows include 13, Hair, Laugh Whore, Urban Cowboy and Debbie Does Dallas. This spring, Tom will be the musical supervisor/arranger/orchestrator for Everyday Rapture at Second Stage, and his string arrangements will appear on the new Green Day album 21st Century Breakdown. He is the proud leader of The Tom Kitt Band. Love to Rita and Michael.

Martin Koch (Billy Elliot)
Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, Mamma Mia! and Billy Elliot. Recordings: more than 30 albums including Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, Oliver, Les Misérables Symphonic (Grammy winner), Hey Mr. Producer!, Mamma Mia! (Grammy nomination), Jerry Springer the Opera, Billy Elliot and Kombat Opera. Orchestrations: Just So, Moby Dick, Tutankhamun, Mamma Mia! (Tony nomination), Jerry Springer the Opera, Billy Elliot, Kombat Opera. With his colleague Nick Gilpin, Martin has a music production company and recording studio that has undertaken numerous television, album and DVD projects.

Larry Blank (Irving Berlin's White Christmas)
The Drowsy Chaperone, Fame Becomes Me, La Cage aux Folles, The Producers (Broadway, London), Guys and Dolls (London), Fiddler on the Roof (London), An American in Paris, Carousel (London) and many others. Films include Chicago, The Producers and six films for composer Marc Shaiman (including South Park). Orchestrations for Barbra Streisand, Barbara Cook, Liza Minnelli, Michael Crawford, John Barrowman, Michael Feinstein, Barry Manilow, Bernadette Peters, Martin Short, Tommy Tune, Nathan Lane and Marilyn Horne; served as music director for Sweeney Todd at the Kennedy Center's Sondheim Celebration as well as many Broadway shows. Larry conducts/orchestrates regularly for the BBC in London.


Danny Troob and John Clancy (Shrek The Musical)
Danny Troob: His career as a musician includes composing, orchestrating and conducting. Some early credits: Pacific Overtures, The Baker's Wife (dance music), Big River (music supervision, Drama Desk Award winner). Orchestrated the animated features Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Pocahontas, where he also conducted the score. Wrote the underscore to The Little Mermaid II (nominated for Annie Award - lost to Shrek!), and the TV musical versions of "Cinderella," "Annie" and "The Music Man." Recently orchestrated The Pajama Game for Broadway and the recording version of God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater - the first Ashman-Menken collaboration.

John Clancy: is honored to have Shrek be his debut in Broadway orchestration under the awesome Danny Troob. Regional credits: Assoc. orchestrator, Just So, Goodspeed 1998 and North Shore 2001. Known as a New York/touring drummer, Clancy has toured the U.S. with acts like Danielia Cotton, Alexa Joel and Constantine Maroulis ("American Idol"). Broadway playing credits: Caroline, or Change; Spring Awakening; Tarzan; Brooklyn; and currently Grease. Love and thanks to my family, friends, Danny, Tim and most of all Jeanine Tesori; you rock.
