Cyrano's Theatre Company presents TRIBES, directed by Dick Reichman, tonight, September 19 - October 11, 2015.

Slated to be performed in concert with the opening of the new Denali Center for the Deaf, Tribes is a bright and bold comic-drama about Billy, who was born into a hearing family. A play about what it means to be understood and communication at a very deep level, as well as what it means to be heard and identity as defined by both "tribal ties" of the family and individuality within that tribe. What does it mean to truly be disabled? Is it Billy's deafness, or might the disability reside more in the family's inability to hear the authentic voices of each other? Language is explored both as a means of communication and as a barrier to it. Also explored is the controversy of "lip reading" versus signing.
