There's no need to fret this winter...take your pick from a plethora of Adelaide's coolest artists with Guitars in Bars! From 14 - 30 July, venues across Adelaide CBD, suburban and hills areas will be filled with the hippest guitar sounds across a variety of genres. The full program is available at guitarsinbars.com.au, as well as in print at Adelaide Festival Centre, and all participating venues.

Created as part of Adelaide Festival Centre's biennial Adelaide Guitar Festival, Guitars in Bars is a stand-alone annual event, continuing to celebrate the live music scene in the city, metro and regional areas, and to develop and encourage relationships between local musicians and venues. It is run in conjunction with Umbrella: Winter City Sounds, which offers an exciting smorgasbord of curated live music projects to warm and illuminate the colder weeks.

Over 60 venues have registered to take part in Guitars in Bars, including The Grace Emily Hotel, The Wheatsheaf Hotel, The Railway Hotel, The Royal Oak Hotel, Mississippi Moon, Edinburgh Castle Hotel, 2KW, Stamford Grand's Horizons and Grand Bars, Marion Hotel, McLaren Vale's White Hill Estate, and Mannum's Pretoria Hotel.

Performances include an eclectic range of blues, country, jazz, pop, rock, soul, folk, swing, rockabilly, contemporary, covers and plenty of original tunes from many of Adelaide's most popular soloists, duos and bands. These include Willunga-based indie/folk favourite Laura Hill, Adelaide gypsy swing group Les Gitans Blancs, loop pedal/stomp box utilising acoustic and bass duo Mr Wolf, and Basket Case - The Australian Green Day Show.

Sidewood Winery will also feature a line-up of musicians during its Winter Reds celebrations on 29 and 30 July at its Maximillian's Cellar Door.

A second Adelaide Guitar Festival initiative also returns in 2017: Resonance, which recognises the important connection between music and wellbeing. It delivers world class music to those who cannot otherwise attend. From 13 - 22 July, performances will be staged for patients, residents, staff and community members at selected venues in the metro and outer metro areas of Adelaide, including the Women's and Children's Hospital, aged care facilities, community centres, SCOSA and at risk homeless facilities. Confirmed artists, many of whom are also participating in Guitars in Bars events, are Adam Page, Aloysius Leeson and Kristy Manuel (Chispa Flamenca), Andy Salvanos, Cal Williams Jr, Dylan and Emma Woolcock, Snooks La Vie and Nik Kiripidis (Snooks & Nik), and Adelaide Guitar Festival Artistic Director Slava Grigoryan with his brother Leonard. Adelaide Guitar Festival Artistic Director Slava Grigoryan, said "What a fantastic turn out from local artists and venues! With what Adelaide has on offer, and the program we've put together, nobody has any excuse to stay inside this winter."

"It's clear from the program why the guitar is the world's most widely played instrument - we have everything, and everyone, covered. We can't wait to share our love of music and its profound benefits with you!'

As an added incentive, Slava will select a local Guitars in Bars artist to open for one of the headlining acts at the next Adelaide Guitar Festival, to be held in August 2018.

Adelaide Festival Centre's biennial Adelaide Guitar Festival is the most significant festival of its kind held in the Southern Hemisphere, and brings masterful artists from around the world together with some of the best Australian musicians to deliver an eclectic and entertaining program of events. The festival is made up of performances, free and low cost workshops, master classes, artist talks, panel discussions and programs for emerging musicians.
