After four years touring Australia and the world, A Solitary Choice returns to South Australian audiences with its Adelaide Fringe premiere. The poignant comedy will perform for one night only at the 48 Lounge (The Big Slapple) Adelaide Convention Centre at 8pm tonight, Feb 26. This all SA production, written by local author Sheila Duncan, stars Adelaide favorite Tamara Lee and is directed by Michael Allen and has performed to standing ovations on three separate continents.

"We were inundated by requests to see the show here again," said direcor and producer Michael Allen. "It's very humbling. The local enthusiasm has been fantastic so this is a very special return performance. I don't know if or when we will do it again in Adelaide so the Fringe is a fitting context."

A Solitary Choice centers around Ruth, who is living the quiet rage of a suburban housewife caught between the pragmatics of modern life and a desire to be free. A chance encounter with a South American busker leads her into the secret passions of an affair, which resulting in an unexpected pregnancy. Forced to make a decision with life and death real players in the dilemma, Ruth faces her choice - alone. This heartfelt and thought provoking account of one woman's secret has touched thousands around the world with its tale of a pervasive human dilemma. This award winning and internationally acclaimed South Australian show returns for one performance only.

"A return performance for SA audiences who have supported us so much over the years seems the right thing to do," said actress Tamara Lee. "It's funny. We've done Fringe festivals in Edinburgh and America but never our own".

Local audiences in Pt Augusta will also get the chance to see this independent success story with the show also being selected to perform at the Desert Fringe in Pt Augusta on March 14.

The production, penned by local theatre legend Sheila Duncan, was first performed as part of the Holden Street Theatres 'Directors Choice' season in 2008 - the same year the production earned Sunday Mail awards for best categories in writing, directing and acting. Tamara Lee was also nominated for an Adelaide Critics Circle award.

In 2010, Guy Masterson invited the show to be a part of his season at the Assembly Rooms for the Edinburgh Fringe. This was followed by a season at Sydney's prestigious Seymour Centre and Melbourne's Theatre Works. Just last year the production was invited to be the first Australian theatre at the Kansas City Fringe Festival.

A Solitary Choice has received accolades and standing ovations everywhere it's been performed. "It's quite an amazing journey that this little production has gone on," said Michael Allen. "I'm just so happy that local South Australian theatre is entertaining audiences of the world. It's pretty amazing".
