Viva Espamlot!

I'm off to Barcelona this afternoon to see the Spanish production of 'Spamalot'.
Tonight is the launch party of the Spanish cast recording.
If anyone is interested in a few days I will be willing to send you some numbers from it.
Love Spanish theatre times -10pm curtain!

This recording is one of the most played on my iPod recently. Hearing "You Won't Succeed on Broadway" (aka "No triunfar en Broadway") is a complete riot!! For some reason Monty Python in Spanish is utterly hilarious even though I can't understand what they're saying.

Enjoy Mama :)

I've learned in the past few months since meeting Eric Idle when he went to Barcelona for the premiere that the Spanish have always loved everything Monty Python- who'd have thought!
I always hated anything Monty Python but simply adore 'Spamlot'.

I have never been a Monty Python fan, but also liked Spamalot.

How long is the show goingn to sit down in Barcelona for?

I heard a rumour that Life of Brian is going to hit Broadway next year?

Wow!
This production is simply fabulous. It looks amazing and they have spent a lot of money on the staging. It obviously isn't as grand as the Palace or Shubert Theatres productions but you are hard pressed to see the differences.
Firstly I have to say that even with my limited Spanish I enjoyed the Spanish production more than I did the UK production the last twice I saw it.
The company are absolutely spot on and they look like they are having a ball.
The casting is brilliant with the actor playing Arthur the best I've seen after Tim Curry (i nearly typed Tim Rice!).
The Lady Of The lake knew just how to wring every last comedy droplet out of, what we all know as, a very small, big part! ...and what a voice! ...and what a cleavage- think a big Faith Brown!
re: Viva Espamlot!
It was rather strange sitting as probably the only English person in a 1200 seat theatre watching the Spanish taking the piss out of the English.
One very funny moment was when the Camelot girls came on they were singing 'I Will Eat Spam Forever' to the music of 'Fame'
The audience loved single every second of it and gave it a good a ovation at the curtain.

It opened last September and will close in Barcelona in May before heading off to Madrid for an initial booking of 18 months.
The production is the second one by Filmax Stage. Their first show was last years very successful 'Grease' which played 2 years in Barcelona and is always being extended in Madrid again and again.
re: Viva Espamlot!
One thing that they did with grease and they have done again with 'Spamalot' is that they have for sale in the foyer a production DVD.
These are basically a DVD containing the auditions, the rehearsals, the lead up publicity for the production and lots of clips of the numbers both in rehearsal and in full stage presentation.
They sell for aprx £13.
Don't we all wish West End shows did that for every production.

The next production to hit barcelona, opening in 3 weeks is the first major production of 'Sweeney Todd' - fully staged- not actor/musician!

Lancelot was played by this complete dream boat of a guy called Fernado Gil.

Bit of a Christian bale look alike don't you think.
A very charming young man who when i chatted to him declared his dream is to appear on the West End stage- no less!

This is is how the show would look if it toured the UK with the obvious set cut backs!

Would I be right in thinking that this is the only production of Spamalot currently running anywhere in the world?

Surprised this has the interest to sit down in Madrid for 18 months, Spain is not known for its love of theatre.

Its growing all the time. It has a very strong scene now in both barcelona and madrid. They have had some great productions of all the big ones we know here in London.

I wonder if Billy Elliot or Hairspray will go there.

When I saw Billy Elliot last week, I was sitting with some Spanish tourists, who loved it, they did not even speak English.

I always hated anything Monty Python and simply hated 'Spamlot' at the Palace.

But these guys look like they're having fun with it and maybe it would be funnier if I didn't understand the language it was performed in.
