Just as the publicity machine starts to heat up towards next years tour of the London Palladiums current production of 'The Sound Of Music' starring again, Connie Fisher, that shows producer, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, has stated that in 2010 he will present a brand new production Jerry Hermans 'Hello Dolly' in the West End also starring Ms Fisher.
He made the statement to a number of newspapers and TV journalists as he warms himself up for next years Eurovision Contest

Well IF it happens at least they have their leading lady so we may get spared the TV reality TV route!
The reality TV show set up would be so boring looking for the Barnaby and Cornelius don't you think?

Dolly of course. She isn't going to play the two other ladies in it!
Its a vehicle for her, she has said that its a pretty big honor to follow in Streisand's steps!
She hasn't a hope of filling them- I'd rather see Carol do it one last time even if it was on a Zimmer frame!

Connie is to Andrew Llyod Webber
as
Wine is to an Alcoholic

he doesn't want to put her down! let the girl go out and get some a job off her own back, im sure she's talented enough to go into the world of the West End without Lloyd Webber holding her hand...

er isnt she far too young to be Dolly?! This is an awful idea. Funny Girl would be a MUCH better idea.

Although I do agree, if her only way of finding work is through him, it doesnt say much for her 'star' ability

I always thought that Connie, would make a good Christine in Phantom, as she has a good lungs and that innocent look.

I've always thought she looked older than her years. Christine could work...possibly, well i mean its ALW, he only has so many productions in the West End atm, so its only inevitable :P

It's probably not very mature, but this is my only reaction to this news.

I hate Connie Fisher.

Here we go!
Maybe this has been abandoned before one 'well, well, hello!' can be sung by Connie!
The Open air Theatre Regents park have just announced this will be their summer offering in 2009.

I would much rather see a MAME revival than DOLLY and NEITHER with Connie! I just hope ALW moves away from the OLIVER SMITH sets and GOWER CHAMPION choreography... just too tired.

I would like to see a decent modern version of Hello Dolly (and Mame, which I have never known done professionally in the UK) as the time I've seen it done professionally was when Dora Bryan warbled her way through it in Manchester in the mid 1980s.

The bitterness in this thread is staggering.

'It's probably not very mature, but this is my only reaction to this news.

'*throws up in mouth* '

'But she looks about 45.'

then we get to these sorts of comments:

'if her only way of finding work is through him, it doesnt say much for her 'star' ability '

Riiiiiiiiiiiiggggggghhhht. She has done nothing apart from the sound of music. Nothing, ever, no other musical, no one-off gigs, nothing,

'Connie is to Andrew Llyod Webber
as
Wine is to an Alcoholic

he doesn't want to put her down!'

His ability to judge talent>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>yours. So wind your neck in eh.

^^^ joined today and immediately attacks peoples comments, which if you had read into a bit more would have realised weren't as you thought they were, but this is a different matter.

'Connie is to Andrew Llyod Webber
as
Wine is to an Alcoholic

he doesn't want to put her down!'

Sorry please explain where in that quote i said she'd only ever done The Sound of Music, and she was talentless? I was simply stating that he has found this "wonderful talent" and insists on casting her at every oppurtunity, which means she doesn't get chance to be recognised as Connie Fisher, but instead as That One of Maria. ALW has found someone with talent, and is using her in everything he can. Let the girl go out and start projects with new prodcuers/composers/directors. If she's as talented as ALW thinks, then she'll do fine without him holding her hand.

I don't hate her, and if anything my post was a dig at ALW not Connie. Please refrain from jumping down my neck without proper reason.

"His ability to judge talent>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>yours"
So because im not a multi-million pound composer i can't tell the difference between talented people and untalented people. That comment is ridiculous.

here's one for you....

'hello webby' as he brings back all his favourite reality stars for a 'star' studded version of hello dolly.

featuring Our Denise as Dolly
Connie fisher as the love interest who's name no-one remembers (pretty much like her in 2009)
Lee Mead as Cornelius
Keith Jack as Barnaby
John Barrowman as Horace

And featuring Graham Norton as Mrs Molloy... well he's into the drag thing at the moment, why not adapt it to make IRene Molloy a tranny. atleast it'd make entertaining viewing

Featuring Choreography by Brian Friedman

Now that would make fun viewing! Ha!
