The c*ckTavern Theatre presents LONDON NEW PLAY FESTIVAL 2009- New plays from some of the UK's most up-and coming new writers and featuring; THREE MINUTE HERO by Phil Setren 28th October - 14th November

PRESS NIGHT: FRIDAY 30th October at 7:30

Directed by: Julie Osman; Design by; Martin Thomas Lighting Design by: Steve Lowe; Music by: Ben Jamin

"I am absolutely convinced that the work the Festival does is uniquely valuable" David Hare

Leading the new writing movement since 1989, LONDON NEW PLAY FESTIVAL brought playwrights Mark Ravenhill, Joe Penhall, Naomi Wallace, Bonnie Greer, Anthony Neilson and over 140 others to the stage for their premiere productions. This revival season sees the new work of 10 new writers in staged readings, the popular class ‘Write a Play In a Day' for all ages and levels, a group commission of 5 short plays inspired by the CLASH album ‘LONDON CALLING', and the WORLD PREMIERE of Phil Setren's comedy THREE MINUTE HERO.

Dave has humped speakers for the biggest names in music. But has he got the stuff to manage a cutting edge Bhangra singer with a conscience? Pop music and cultures clash in Phil Setren's contemporary new comedy with a twist. A wildly comic new play, satirising the music business alongside the modern quest for fame at any cost.

A "How To Make It In Music" handbook inspires Dave, a stage doorman to live the dream of a Rock Promoter. Will "Hot Goddess" fulfil the fantasy of dominatrix rock-chicks in rhythm? A late night swingers club, a chipped tooth and bad hair dyes, lead him to move on to managing an inspired Bhangra singer full of promise. The arrival of a politicised uncle leads to tensions, jealousies, hard choices and even harder truths.

Phil Setren co-founded London New Play Festival (LNPF) in 1989. Under his Artistic Direction it grew to have residencies at the Old Red Lion, Finborough, Gate and Bush Theatres and Riverside, Lyric and Young Vic Studios. LNPF also developed The Writing School and hosted high-profile talks (David Hare vs. Mark Ravenhill). After a brief hiatus to work on longer script development projects, LNPF most recently produced Wild Fruit and Lovers From Hell (Oval House) and Jack, the Lad (Soho Theatre, Edinburgh and Dublin Festivals).

Adam Spreadbury-Maher (Artistic Director of The c*ckTavern Theatre) and Phil Setren share the same vision to provide a platform for tomorrow's leading playwrighting talent. This new collaboration to revive LNPF brings together their joint experience, energy and enthusiasm.

Director Julie Osman's recent directing credits include: Licence My Roving Hands; Your Objects Move Us (both The Space); City Girls and Villains and Victims (both Jermym Street Theatre). As Associate Director with LNPF, she developed and co-directed Jack The Lad (Soho Theatre and Project Arts Centre, Dublin).

Writer Phil Setren has written the plays The Guilt Edge; Picture Perfect; Gidget on Drugs; The Dressing Circus and Celebration Unity and the screenplay Love Child. Phil edited Best of the Festival (an anthology celebrating 10 years of LNPF). Directing credits include: U.S premiere of Ben Elton's Popcorn starring Kelly McGillis; Temporary Girl (Assembly, Edinburgh and International tour); Soap Crazy (Lyric); Wild Fruit and Lovers From Hell (Oval House); Free; (Old Red Lion) The Very Nearly Love Life; (Finborough) and Beyond Therapy (Kings Head - won the London Fringe Award for "Best Comedy" in 1987).

Music coordinator Ben Jamin designed the sound for Wild Fruit by Robert Farrar (Oval House Theatre). London nightclub residencies include Area, Crash, The Bump, The Egg, Dirty Fairy and Mother Bar. Ben has headlined celebrations for BBC Radio One Live, The Coliseum in Rome, Trafalgar Square, Los Angeles and Iceland. Ben recently launched Knucklehead a new club in Old Street which fuses cabaret performance and dance.
