Tooting Arts Club presents Sweeney Todd, featuring Olivier nominated Siobhan McCarthy from the original London cast of Mamma Mia! and ITV's Bad Girls as Mrs Lovett, all set in London's oldest pie shop. Directed by Bill Buckhurst with musical director Ben Cox, Sweeney Todd (Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim; Book by Hugh Wheeler) will play Harrington's Pie and Mash Shop, Tooting, today 21st October to 29th November. Press night is set for Monday 27th October, 7.30pm.

Mrs Lovett will be played by Siobhan McCarthy, who was Olivier nominated as the original Donna in Mamma Mia!, and is also known for her role of Roisin Connor in ITV's Bad Girls. Her other credits include Sveltana in Chess and the Mistress in Evita, both as part of the original London casts, and more recently as Velma Von Tussle in Hairspray at the Shaftesbury.

She will be joined by Jeremy Secomb as Sweeney; Jeremy's West End credits include The Phantom of the Opera, Lend Me A Tenor The Musical, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Evita and The Woman in White. David Freedman will be taking on the role of Judge Turpin, a role he has previously played at the Bloomsbury Theatre, and Ian Mowat (South Pacific, Prince of Wales Theatre) as his faithful Beadle.

The cast also includes Kiara Jay (Sister Act, London Palladium Theatre) as Pirelli/Beggar Woman, Nadim Naaman (The Phantom of the Opera, Her Majesty's Theatre) as Anthony, Grace Chapman (Kerry Ellis Live at the Palladium) as Johanna and Joseph Taylor as Tobias (Scott Mills in Scott Mills: The Musical, Edinburgh Fringe Festival).

In this staging of Sondheim's musical thriller, audiences will congregate at Anton's barber shop before being shown through to Harrington's Pie and Mash Shop, where the décor, little changed since it was opened in 1908, will provide the setting for Mrs Lovett's infamous establishment.

Tooting Arts Club was established in 2010 to stage high quality professional productions in an area that lacks a permanent home for theatre. The company takes inspiration from the area, using local buildings to stage performances that draw audiences from across London, including critically acclaimed productions of Lucy Kirkwood's Tinderbox, Barrie Keefe's Barbarians (which was staged in a former Youth Enterprise Centre) and an outdoor A Midsummer Night's Dream. Sweeney Todd will be Tooting Arts Club's fifth production. For more, follow on Twitter @tootingartsclub #tootingsweeney or visit www.tootingartsclub.co.uk.
