J H Schryer's debut novel, Goodnight Vienna: A moving story of love, lust and betrayal set against the backdrop of Nazi Vienna gets released 7/7.

"What is it that a man should put duty and honour before the woman he loves? He would give his life for her, yet he can't have her. If he lived it all again he couldn't change a thing."

It is March 1938. Hitler has marched into Vienna to a triumphant reception, but the 180,000 Jews living in the city fear the future. Katharine Simmons, an English musician and undercover SIS agent working at the British Passport Office, is distraught when her husband, also an undercover agent, is taken from their home and disappears without trace. Left alone in Vienna, Katharine's secret work prevents her from returning to Britain, but the noose is tightening around the SIS operatives. Who is betraying them? Can the love of a mystery man save Katharine from the Gestapo? And what is the past that haunts her?

A book launch will be held at the Freud Museum, 20 Maresfield Gardens, Hampstead, London, NW3 5SX on Tuesday 7 July 2009 at 6pm. There will also be a book signing at the Stratford-on-Avon Music Festival on 3 and 4 July.
