As part of the theatre's Hometown season, Royal & Derngate is transforming the whole of the Derngate auditorium into a giant children's playmat for a fantastic interactive show for children and families to enjoy together. Flathampton runs from Friday 9 to Saturday 17 July.

The people of Flathampton get on with life as best they can but everything in town is as flat as a pancake - from the sandwiches in Paolo's Café to the stethoscope on Doctor Zee's desk. But when Kate comes back from the big city she brings a truckload of weird and wonderful solid objects for her old friends and introduces a new dimension to life in Flathampton.

Flathampton will take you on an amazing interactive journey round the biggest playmat you will ever see, as you help Kate and the Flathamptonites to build up their town. You'll collect your Flathampton money, spend it at the Flathampton shops, ice some Flathampton cakes and you can even try your hand at working in the hospital, the makeover salon, the music shop and for Flathampton TV news.

An event the whole family will enjoy, Flathampton is directed by Royal & Derngate's Associate Director Dani Parr and written by Daniel Jamieson, re-uniting the team that has worked on the theatre's hugely successful interactive shows for under-6s which have taken place in Underground over recent years. The cast includes Lorna Laidlaw, from CBeebies' TV series Tikkabilla and Grandpa in My Pocket, and Kate Russell-Smith who played the Wicked Witch in Royal & Derngate's The Wizard of Oz.

Flathampton takes over the Derngate auditorium from Friday 9 to Saturday 17 July. Weekday performances are aimed specifically at early years (under 6s) and their families, while weekend performances are suitable for children of all ages with their families. Tickets are just £6.50 each. There is also a special one-off evening performance on Friday 16 July for teenagers and adults only (tickets £10).
