Pleasance® Theatre Trust Ltd. presents Big Day Out 400 miles from Edinburgh, our first ever annual London summer festival! Pleasance® does what Pleasance® knows best and hosts the first of many vibrant summer festivals for all the family at Pleasance® Islington.
Filling our 298-seat Main House, 54-seat Studio and 50ft garage, kids shows and workshops, a huge variety of market-stalls, live music, comedy, adventurous circus and cabaret will entertain the whole family from 11am - 11pm, accompanied by delicious food provided by the Woodstore Bar and Grill.
Puppets, face paints, and the Pleasance® Kids' Arts Café are among some of the many treats in store for our younger visitors whose day starts in our Main House with James Campbell (of Comedy for Kids fame). Hot on his tail, the Long Nose Puppet Company presents Polly Dunbar's PENGUIN followed by a workshop on how to build a puppet in 45 minutes. And if our young audience is fed-up with going to bed early, they can become part of the Mischief Makers Protest Camp, make a protest banner, join the Mischief Makers March and Rally, shout their slogans and demand their desires! ‘Give peas a chance!'
In the Studio, acts include Edinburgh previews from Rachel Rose Reid's wonderful story-telling in I'M HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN, and MacKenzie and McGuire with their new RADIO HOOHAH extravaganza. With resident partners ISLINGTON COMMUNITY THEATRE and LUC's: PURGATORY performing drama and music in the Garage, it's sure to be a fun-packed day.
The evening kicks off in the Main House with the dazzling New Zealand circus show THE BUTLER and following swiftly on, we invite people to join us in the Woodstore for VIVE LE CABARET hosted by our very own Des O'Connor and including Tony Award winning FRANCES RUFFELLE who originated the role of Eponine in LES MISERABLES.
If all this isn't enough, toys, books, jewellery, soap, accessories, paintings, iced organic drinking chocolate, ice-cream, cup-cakes and much, much more will be on sale throughout the day.
