Old Red Lion Theatre in Islington is set to present the UK premiere of Marsha Norman's ‘Night Mother. The play will run 31 August to 24 September, with a preview on 30 September.

Written in 1981, it is Marsha Norman's fifth play and was first produced for the stage in 1983. Among the many honors bestowed on the piece were the Pulitzer Prize and the Susan Smith Blackburn Award. The first American production starring Kathy Bates transferred to Broadway where it ran for a year and achieved four Tony Award nominations.

Lauded for its emotional honesty and realistic dialogue, ‘Night Mother charts the final desperate hour of a mother daughter relationship so consumed with emptiness and ennui that one of them can no longer tolerate living.

This new production of 'night, Mother will feature Sadie Shimmin and Pat Starr. It will be directed by American Repertory Theater's Paul Stacey, and designed by Kat Heath with lighting by Eoin Furbank.
