The Menier Chocolate Factory will continue its tradition of stand-up comedy with performances from Phil Nichol and Charles Fleischer. Nichol and Fleischer follow in the footsteps of Bill Bailey, Marcus Brigstocke, Jason Byrne, Rhona Cameron, Patrick Kielty, Jeremy Lyon and Mark Thomas, who have all previously performed to packed houses at the Chocolate Factory.
Stand -up comedian Phil Nichol will play seven performances only at the Menier Chocolate Factory from 12 March – 20 March.Nichol’s Chocolate Factory performance is a compilation of his past three stand-up shows, Nearly Gay, infamous for “The Only Gay Eskimo” song; Naked Racist, which won the if.comedy award; and Hiro Worship, the hilarious tale of a Japanese tourist in search of the Rolling Stones. Phil Nichol was first known as the guitar-playing member of top classic musical comedy trio Corky and the Juice Pigs. As well as performing at Montreal’s Comedy Festival, Just for Laughs, and the Melbourne Comedy Festival, during Nichol’s fourteen-year career as a comedian he has performed extensively on the Edinburgh Fringe, winning amongst others, a Time Out Comedy Award. His West End acting credits include Taboo and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. He was also seen in the sell-out production of Twelve Angry Men, The Odd Couple (with Alan Davies and Bill Bailey) and True West, all at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, On television his credits include The Stand Up Show, The Comedy Store, Annually Retentive, Wedding Planner, Alexie Sayle’s Merry Go Round and Jeff Green Live.Under the direction of Artistic Director David Babani, since it opened in 2004, six Menier Chocolate Factory productions have subsequently transferred to the West End - Fully Committed, Sunday in the Park with George, Little Shop of Horrors, Dealer’s Choice and, most recently, Maria Friedman Re-Arranged and La Cage aux Folles, which is currently playing at the Playhouse Theatre. Trevor Nunn’s Chocolate Factory production of A Little Night Music will transfer to the Garrick Theatre on 28 March 2009. As well as the theatre space, the multi award-winning Menier Chocolate Factory has a Restaurant serving pre-theatre and a la carte menus.
