According to the Daily Mail, BILLY ELLIOT director Stephen Daldry found three local leads for his upcoming film TRASH. Newcomers Rickson Tevez, Eduardo Luis and Gabriel Weinstein will star in the movie.

TRASH follows "three boys from a favela community in Rio de Janeiro who find a dead man's wallet in a city rubbish dump and are then hunted by corrupt police."

"We were looking for something unquantifiable: a certain sparkle," Daldry told the Mail. "There had to be determination, tenacity and imagination to get them through what can be a very long and gruelling process. Which kid could stay the course?" Daldry said he told the film's story to the actors and had them summarize the plot back for him. "They would adapt it. But it ensured they understood it -- though it meant some flexibility in the shooting."

TRASH, written by Richard Curtis, is produced by Working Title's Eric Fellner & Tim Bevan, as well as Kris Thykier. Daldry also worked with Rio-based filmmaker Fernando Meirelles, who is familiar with the city and its communities.

Unlike most stars, the actors will receive their payment over the course of several years, via installments to their families. Daldry told the Mail this is "to create a sustainable income for them and create medical and educational support systems."
