Natascha McElhone to Star as 'Alex' in Stage Adaptation of FATAL ATTRACTION

The Daily Mail writes that Natascha McElhone will star in the upcoming stage adaptation of FATAL ATTRACTION, which originally featured Glenn Close on the big screen in 1987 in the role of 'Alex', an unhinged woman who becomes obsessed with a man after a weekend fling.

After confirming the casting news to the Mail, producer Robert Fox elaborated on original screenwriter James Dearden's stage adaptation, saying: "It's completely its own piece for the theatre" and "is much more sympathetic to Alex, and Dearden has created a much more balanced version. You feel she's not the complete loon that she is in the film. Dearden's ending was re-written and re-shot for the film. That bum ending has gone now, and Alex is portrayed very fairly."

The producer also confirmed that the famous scene involving a pet rabbit being simmered on a stove will be included in the play.

FATAL ATTRACTION begins previews on 8 March with press night on 25 March and is booking for a fifteen week limited run to 21 June 2014. Trevor Nunn directs. Fatal Attraction is produced by Theatre Royal Haymarket Productions, Robert Fox and Patrick Ryecart.

This story of obsession and revenge explores how a chance meeting in a bar and a casual encounter quickly becomes a living nightmare for Dan Gallagher, a successful New York lawyer, and his young family. After spending one weekend with the gorgeous Alex Forrest, he assumes he can just walk away, but Alex is a woman who refuses to be ignored. She pursues Dan and his family with terrifying consequences.

On stage, McElhone has appeared in Richard III at Regent's Park, The Count of Monte Cristo and The Cherry Orchard at the Haymarket, Leicester, A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Open Air Theatre and more.

McElhone, who was featured early in her career in The Truman Show, has recently appeared on the big screen in Believe, Romeo and Juliet, The Sea, Thorne: Sleepyhead, The Kid, Blessed and more. Her TV credits include Revelations and Californication.
