According to the Daily Mail, Marianne Jean-Baptiste will star in The National Theatre's The Amen Corner by James Baldwin. Directed by Rufus Norris, the show will begin previews next week at the Olivier Theatre.

The play is set in 1950s Harlem and follows Sister Margaret (played by Jean-Baptiste), a rigid pastor who must face her estranged husband's sudden, and meddling, return to town.

"I didn't want to play her totally hard-faced," Jean-Baptiste told the Mail. "She has had to raise her son on her own and she's frightened for him. She knows it's not easy for men out in the world. But at the same time, she has to keep her faith."

Jean-Baptiste is currently filming All You Need Is Kill with Tom Cruise and has appeared on TV in the series Without A Trace. Other upcoming features include RoboCop, The Tiger Rising and Son of the South. She has also appeared on the big screen in The Moment, Won't Back Down, Breaking Waves, Voilet & Daisy, 360, Takers, City of Ember, The Cell, 28 Days, A Murder of Crows, Secrets & Lies and more. Her off-Broadway credits include The Winter's Tale and The Merchant of Venice.
