Transformation. A mating ground. The sense of freedom and possibility. The desperation to control a need and suppress a fear. The shared experiences of alienation and rejection. A place of sex, substances and secrecy. A place where the law of the jungle rules over all. Man-Cub is a newly devised piece that blurs the lines of movement, theatre and personal politics.

Man-Cub is a queer adaptation of The Jungle Book, that follows the story of a young homosexual males' first night out to a gay club. The people he encounters are all devised from the animalistic characteristics from the characters in Rudyard Kipling's story.

The script has been written specifically for the cast in the room. These characters are bespoke tailor made to the actors skill set and own personal experiences. Man-Cub's cast consists of people that are complimentary to one another, yet also contrasting, showing the range of personalities we encounter in everyday life. The play isn't about being gay - it's about being human and how we position ourselves as individual in society.

Through intelligent discussions throughout the devised process, the piece has evolved into a well-rounded contemporary narrative, exploring modern-day culture through a physical theatre stylistic approach. The story is told through the body - one that is free.

On the surface, Man-Cub can be seen as a light-hearted dance piece, but digging deeper you discover that there are a lot of other things going on. This piece puts a mirror up to society, asking audiences to question their expectations when going on nights out, and to examine their relationship with the world and each other.

Man-Cub is romantic, promiscuous, raw and sensory. If you're looking for something that is a really great night out, but with lots to discuss afterwards, then this is the piece to see.
