Michael Gambon will return to the West End stage to star in "KRAPP'S LAST TAPE" by Samuel Beckett, which will open at the Duchess Theatre on 15 September for a limited season, finishing on 20 November. There will be a press night on Wednesday 22 September. He will be reprising the critically lauded performance, which he gave for a short season at the Gate Theatre in Dublin in March this year. "KRAPP'S LAST TAPE" will be directed by the Gate Theatre Dublin's Artistic Director Michael Colgan.

Michael Gambon has recently starred in Harold Pinter's "No Man's Land" and Samuel Beckett's "Eh Joe", both at the Gate Theatre in Dublin, which both transferred triumphantly to the West End. His other more recent stage work includes "The Caretaker" at the Comedy Theatre, "Endgame" at the Albery Theatre, "A Number" at The Royal Court Theatre and "The Life of Galileo" and "A View From The Bridge", both at the National Theatre. His television and film work includes "The Singing Detective", "Mary Reilly", "Gosford Park", "Angels in America", "Cranford" and "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover". He is universally known for starring as ‘Professor Albus Dumbledore' in the Harry Potter films. ‘The Great Gambon', as he is generally known, started his career at the Gate Theatre in Dublin, in exactly the same way as Orson Welles and James Mason.

Michael Colgan has now been the Artistic Director of the Gate Theatre in Dublin for 27 years, during which time he produced four Pinter and six Beckett Festivals, which were subsequently seen throughout the world. He produced a critically acclaimed Brian Friel season in 2009 to mark the playwright's eightieth birthday, which opened at the Sydney Festival in Australia before transferring to the Edinburgh Festival and subsequently the Gate Theatre.
The world premiere of "KRAPP'S LAST TAPE" was at The Royal Court Theatre in London over 50 years ago in October 1958. This classic play has become one of Beckett's seminal works. This Gate Theatre Dublin production of "KRAPP'S LAST TAPE" will be produced in London by the Gate Theatre Dublin in association with Playful Productions.

In the great British tradition of Variety and Music Hall, "KRAPP'S LAST TAPE" will play twice nightly, with tickets priced from £25-35 (which includes a £1 restoration levy on each ticket). Performances at the Duchess Theatre will be at 7.00pm and 8.15pm from Tuesdays to Fridays, with performances at 3.00pm and 8.00pm on Saturdays. There are a few exclusions to this schedule and there will be no Sunday or Monday performances. Tickets are available from the Duchess Theatre Box Office on 08444124659 or online at www.krappslasttape.co.uk, which also lists the exact details of all performances.
