Film and Stage Actor Ian Carmichael Dies at 89

Veteran British actor Ian Carmichael has died at the age of 89.

Carmichael's film credits include 'Betrayed', 'The Coldtiz Story', 'The Lady Vanishes', The Magnificent Seven Deadly Sins', as well as various projects for the Boulting Brothers, including Private's Progress (1956), Brothers in Law (1957) and I'm All Right Jack (1959). Carmichael was well known for playing the role of Bertie Wooster in the BBC drama series The World of Wooster, and also played Lord Peter Wimsey in various BBC dramatic series based on mystery novels penned by Doroty L. Sayers. Most recently, Carmichael appeared in the ITV series 'The Royal' where he played Hospital Secretary T.J. Middleditch, and in the BBC series 'Wives and Daughters'.

Carmichael's theatre credits include 'Julius Caesar', 'What Goes On?', 'Tunnel of Love', 'Wild Violets' 'Pride and Prejudice', and 'Out on a Limb'. Carmichael played 'Michael' in the West End's production of 'I Do! I Do!'  in 1968. He appeared on Broadway as 'Robert' in the 1965 show 'Boeing-Boeing'.

In 2003, Carmichael was appointed an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
