Chris Ofili's major mid-career survey at Tate Britain presents over 45 paintings, rarely exhibited pencil drawings, and watercolors from the mid-1990s to the present. Known for his intricately detailed and vibrantly colored paintings fusing hip-hop culture, spirituality, folklore, and the natural world, this exhibition brings together the artist's achievements in several media, providing the most substantial presentation of his work to date.

Among the works selected for the exhibition will be signature pieces such as Afrodizzia (second version) (1996), The Holy Virgin Mary (1996) and Blossom (1997). Also included is The Upper Room (1999-2002), a large-scale installation of thirteen canvases displayed in an environment designed by architect David Adjaye. Additionally, several new canvases will be unveiled for the first time.

The exhibition is curated by Judith Nesbitt, Chief Curator, Tate Britain, and assisted by Helen Little, Assistant Curator, Tate Britain. A fully illustrated catalogue accompanies the exhibition, including an essay by Okwui Enwezor, and an interview with the artist by Ekow Eshun.
