What's On Stage is reporting that the Chocolate Factory's revival of the 1983 hit play La Cage Au Folles will transfer to the West End. It will have an October 30th, 2008 at the Playhouse Theatre.

What's On Stage reports, "Douglas Hodge will reprise his performance as drag queen Albin, newly joined by actor-director Denis Lawson, who returns to the West End stage after a long absence to take over from Philip Quast (pictured with Hodge) as Albin’s lover Georges. The production is being reconceived by director Terry Johnson for the Playhouse, where it’s booking for a limited season to 10 January 2009, with cabaret-style seating available at the front of the stalls for audience members over 18 years of age."

La Cage aux Folles is a musical with a book by Harvey Fierstein and lyrics and music by Jerry Herman. Based on the 1973 French play by Jean Poiret and subsequent 1978 French-Italian screen version (one of the most popular foreign films ever released in the United States), the musical focuses on a gay couple: Georges, the manager of a Saint-Tropez nightclub featuring drag entertainment, and Albin, his star attraction - and the adventures that ensue when Georges' son brings home his fiancée's ultra-conservative parents to meet them, " describes press notes

The musical won six Tony Awards including Best Book, Best Musical and Best Original Score and includes the famous song "I Am What I Am". The original Broadway production was directed by Arthur Laurents. A Broadway revival directed by Jerry Zaks opened in 2004.
