Following their hugely successful three week sell-out run of ‘The Duchess of Malfi' at The White Bear Theatre in London in March this year, BlackSun Theatre Company now return with their new production ‘100% Comedy 100% Chekhov'.
This new production features a collection of Anton Chekhov's funniest and most revered one-act plays including The Bear, The Sneeze, The Jubilee & The Wedding. In 100% Comedy 100% Chekhov the cast includes: David FensomNominated for Best Actor for his role as Lopakhin in ‘The Cherry Orchard' as part of the 27th Fadjr Theatre Festival, Tehran Andrew McDonald Original London cast of Spring Awakening at The Lyric, Hammersmith & The Novello Theatre, West End Trudy Elizabeth Hodgson Recently appeared as The Duchess in' The Duchess of Malfi' at The White Bear Theatre, London Elyse Marks Recently appeared as Lily in ‘Alfie' at The Barons Court Theatre Many of Chekhov's one act and short stories were written as entertainment in his local comic magazines and to support his family financially. He saw these as ‘amusing trifles' but it is really through his shorter pieces of writing that audiences can get a true sense of his comedic talents. These works provided a platform for Chekhov's full length plays by exploring themes of everyday life and his brand of stock characters. Through these four ‘jests in one act' presented by BlackSun this
summer at the Greenwich Playhouse and at as part of the Abbeyfest Festival 2009, we will perform the beginnings of a truly comedic writer.
