Miriam Zendle talks to the actress at the Oliviers...

Samantha presented the Best Actor award to Mark Rylance.

A very deserving winner, I think.

Absolutely, yeah.

How did you feel presenting the award?

It's the weirdest thing about being an actress that standing on a stage is what I do for a living, and then you're standing up on a stage, you're not pretending to be anyone else, you're just being you. That's terrifying. And then there's one half of you that's thinking 'well, I'm standing in a room looking out at hundreds of my friends - or close acquaintances - and that should be comforting but yet it's even more frightening. I was just so thrilled that it went to Mark. It was an incredibly strong nomination list this year. I would hate to have been one of the judges, I'll tell you that for nothing.

What are you doing at the moment?

Nothing! Well, my husband's on Broadway. I'm here looking after the children. I've been out a lot.

Arcadia last summer was raved about by many, and featured a strong ensemble cast. Did you enjoy working with them?

Yes! That's exactly what it was - you've described it well. It was a brilliant play with about seven leading roles in it, so you get seven really strong players in it to kick the ball around. I adored it, I absolutely adored it.

Will you be partying into the night?

Well now I've done my bit, I can go have a nice calm glass of wine cos you can't when you've got to go up on stage. I'm looking forward to letting my hair down now.
