DUE to popular demand from across the UK, tickets are now on sale for extra performances of Nottingham Playhouse's highly anticipated production of The Madness of George III.

Confirmed dates include 7.30pm evening performances on Wednesday 21 November through to Saturday 24 November 2018, plus a1.30pm matinee performance on Thursday 22 November.

Marking the 70th anniversary of Nottingham Playhouse Theatre Company will be a special Gala performance - sponsored by Russell Scanlan - on the evening of Thursday 22 November. The theatre aims to celebrate this milestone by raising £20,000 on the night to support its access and community work and its artist development programme.
The additional dates, which are exclusively on offer today (6 April) to Nottingham Playhouse Pass members, will go on general sale Friday 13 April.

Having already been named as a theatre highlight of 2018 by BBC News, the show has drawn much media attention thanks to the casting of Mark Gatiss in the lead role of King George III.

No stranger to a royal-themed production, Olivier Award winner Adrian Scarborough will join the The League of Gentleman writer as Dr Willis. Scarborough, who is also due to appear with Gatiss in the upcoming Disney film, Christopher Robin, is best known for his involvement in hit TV sitcom Gavin and Stacey and appearance in Oscar winning film The King's Speech, as well as his National Theatre performances in King Lear, and After the Dance. He is also well-versed with The Madness of George III production, after appearing as Fortnum in the 1994 film version.

Commenting on the casting, director Adam Penford said: "Adrian Scarborough and I have been looking for a project to work on together for a long time. He and Mark Gatiss are two of the UK's leading theatre actors; their combined talents on stage in this modern classic will be theatrical dynamite. Nottingham's in for a real treat!
"The play is dramatic, moving and funny and focuses on power and identity, examining the fine line between a King and a man."

The Madness of George III, written by Alan Bennett, is an epic, multi award-winning drama. Set in 1786, King George III is the most powerful man in the world. However, his behaviour is becoming increasingly erratic as he succumbs to fits of lunacy; and his mind unravels at a dramatic pace.

As the Queen and Prime Minister attempt to hide the king's illness from his subjects, royal doctors hopelessly squabble over the correct cure, subjecting him to torturous medical treatments.

Ambitious politicians and the scheming prince begin a power struggle, endangering the stability of the crown.

The Madness of George III runs from Friday 2 November until Saturday 24 November

Tickets are priced £8.50 - £37.50
