In its first partnership with the Anacostia Arts Center, Washington Improv Theater will stage two performances and conduct a free workshop for Anacostia audiences the weekend of Oct. 18 and 19.

WIT teams People Like Us, King Bee, Commonwealth, and Season Six will all take the stage for the shows. Each ensemble will use an audience suggestion to inspire the comedic performances that they create on the spot. These shows are $10 admission and begin at 8PM on October 18 and 19.

WIT will also host a free workshop on October 19 from 3PM to 5PM. WIT's Intro to Improv Workshops are low-stress, one-time, two-hour classes focused on creativity, communications, and teamwork. They are taught by our enthusiastic and professional instructors who establish a fun and trusting atmosphere.

"We've been eager to bring improv to Anacostia for a long time now. This partnership with the Anacostia Arts Center is a perfect opportunity to introduce WIT and the art of longform improvisation to a new community," said WIT Artistic and Executive Director Mark Chalfant.

"I have long admired WIT's work, and I am thrilled that they are bringing their talents East of the River! It's my hope their programming in Anacostia will inspire additional improv enthusiasm, artists, and audiences."

SCHEDULE:

Workshop will take place Saturday, Oct. 19 from 3 PM to 5 PM

Performances will take place Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19. Both shows begin at 8 PM.

For 15 years, Washington Improv Theater (WIT) has dedicated itself to unleashing the creative, collaborative power of improv in DC. WIT is DC's premiere arts organization showcasing and advancing the artform of improvisational theatre with over 200 artists, 30 instructors, 1,000 students, and 10,000 audience members engaging annually in performances and classes. WIT is a multi-tiered arts organization: a producing organization exploring and forwarding the craft of longform improv in challenging new directions; a presenting organization allowing improvisers from across the country to share their artistry with DC audiences; a community organization serving a rapidly growing family of improv artists. For our students, WIT is an artistic conservatory, a personal-development laboratory, a professional skill-building gymnasium, and a vital social outlet in a tightly "scripted" city. WIT is the place for improv in DC. Follow WIT and all its shows via: www.facebook.com/washingtonimprovtheater and www.twitter.com/WITImprov.
